It’s clear that digitalisation plays, and will so more and more in the future, an important role in the development of any tourist activity, and the Way of St. James cannot ignore this new situation, which the pandemic we’re currently experiencing will most likely accelerate. The arrival of 5G, the development of smart destinations, industry 4.0, Big Data or blockchain will be digitalising experiences that have every potential to focus the Way of St. James towards sustainability and a strategy of continuous improvement, both in its management and for all the players involved in the Xacobeo pilgrimage phenomenon.

We’ll discuss digitalising experiences currently linked to doing the Camino, both in the present and the future. Moreover, we’ll comment on potential experiences of sustainability that can add improvements to the experiencing of travelling the Way of St. James.
