Santiago de Compostela, November 13, 2017. -Fairway, Forum of the Way of St. James continues with its task of giving voice to all the actors who play a role in this phenomenon of multiple faces, in the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions of Santiago.
On Monday, the more than 1,600 business meetings between international tour operators and local suppliers in workshop format began, as well as the discussion tables on the problems of the different routes in which professional and institutional representatives take the floor.
The fair continues, with more than 60 exhibitors and more than 100 brands showing their news and resources. Fairway access is still free upon registration on its website www.fairwaysantiago.com
The Fairway congress commemorated the 30th anniversary of its proclamation as the first cultural itinerary, addressed the public management of the Way or unveiled the Kumano Kodo and the Fuorivia Egnatia.
It has been a day of outstanding speakers such as Alessandro Scafi, who addressed in his conference aspects such as what a sacred place consists of and how people approach them; presented the results of an investigation conducted over 10 years about them; and compared the pilgrimage taken as a redemptive journey of sins with a spiritual destiny to that carried out without devotion. In conclusion, Scafi pointed to the need for sensible management that takes into account both lay visitors and the preservation of the true "spirit" of the route. Scafi is a Doctor in Medieval and Renaissance History at The Warburg Institute, University of London.
In this sense, the former Director of Culture, Heritage, Cultural and Natural of the Council of Europe, José María Ballester, who opened the conference stressing that the Way of St. James is a religious itinerary, but also a "path of civilization" was expressed "That structures the culture and heritage of Europe. In addition, Ballester also stressed the need to address the Camino de Santiago in a sustainable way, a work of flow management that must face the destinations.
One last intense day
Tomorrow, Tuesday the 14th, Fairway will hurry up its last day with an intense program.
In his congress, the first session at 10.00 am, will deal with Accessibility on the way, with the intervention of Rafael Sánchez Bargiela, manager of Xacobeo; Jesús Hernández Galán, director of accessibility of the ONCE; and Simón Neira Dueñas, manager of Geozzy.com.
It will take over the table on Other cultural itineraries: mirrors and reflections, which compiles different European routes. In particular, it will count on the experiences of Rosário Correia Machado, director at the Rota do Românico in Portugal or Paolo Giulietti, president of the Francesco's Ways consortium.
At 4:00 p.m. will arrive the presentation of Encamiñando, by Enrique Sáez Ponte and José Manuel Andrade, president and director of the Juana de Vega Foundation.
Finally, at 5:00 pm, they will face the Challenges of the Way: from tradition to contemporaneity; with the contributions of Mercedes Parrado, of Pulpería Ezequiel de Melide; Begoña Valdomar, hospitalera in the hostel of Fisterra; and Mónica and Silvana Crisóstomo, from Ideas Pilgrim Pilgrim Store.
The discussion tables will focus on Investing in the Way: Portuguese Way, from 4pm; and in Marca Galicia Marca Camino: Fisterra-Muxía Way, starting at 6:00 p.m. In addition, the professional workshop will continue throughout the day.
Presentations to the media
There will be no shortage of institutional presentations to the media. At 11:30 the Wakayama will arrive, by Brad Towle, Promotion Manager of the Kumano Tourism Bureau; at 11:45 it will be the Portuguese Way along the Coast, by María José Guerreiro, from the Municipal Chamber of Viana do Castelo; and at 12:00 noon will be presented the book 'Virgen del Camino en-clave de misterios' by its writer Isidro Cicero.
Fairway, II Forum of the Wayof St. James. An initiative from the private sector
Fairway, Forum of the Camino de Santiago, was born from the private initiative. It is promoted by the wholesale-retailer Viajes Viloria; the marketing agency Mr Turismo; and Trevisani, a company that organizes events, protocol and public relations, and communication.
It has the main sponsorship of Correos, the institutional collaboration of the Deputation of A Coruña and the support of Paradores, Cathedral of Santiago, Cluster of Tourism of Galicia and of different sponsoring entities and collaborators.
