The Main Office of CORREOS of Madrid-Cibeles hosts the exhibition "Discover the magic of the Camino"
Madrid, February 21, 2018. The Main Office of CORREOS of Madrid (Cibeles), located in Paseo del Prado nº 1, hosts the exhibition "Discover the magic of the Camino". The exhibition includes a selection of the best images submitted to the photography contest on the Camino de Santiago organized by CORREOS and iPeregrinos in the summer of 2016. A total of 57 images, among which are the winners and finalists of the Contest.
This itinerant exhibition has visited different Spanish cities throughout the year 2017 and finishes its journey in Madrid. It can be visited until March 9 from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 9:00 pm and on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
CORREOS, in collaboration with the iPeregrinos pilgrims community, launched a photo contest on their Camino de Santiago Facebook page in the summer of 2016, to discover the magic of the Camino through the snapshots of the thousands of pilgrims who walk it.
More than 600 photographs were submitted to the contest, in different categories: "Smiles", "Nature and Animals", "Art and Culture", "Gastronomy" and a last one open to "Others" that accommodates any other magical aspect of the Camino. Among them, five winners and five finalists were chosen, who are part of the exhibition.
In the Nature category, the award went to Sonia Cano García, resident in Madrid, with an image of some shadows on her Camino by Hospital de Bruma, on the Camino Inglés. The photographs of another 10 people from Madrid can also be seen in the exhibition.
The Community of Madrid is the second Autonomous Community of Spain in number of pilgrims and about 25,000 people from Madrid came to Santiago last year.
Traveling exhibition
The exhibition has visited different Spanish cities throughout the year 2017 with the aim of promoting the Camino de Santiago. He initially departed from Santiago in the month of January, and has toured cities such as San Sebastian, Burgos, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Seville and Cáceres. After a year of itinerancy his tour ends in Madrid.
In 2017 CORREOS and iPeregrinos have carried out a new contest to reward the best images that reflect the values of the Camino. During the first week of September the winners of this new edition were announced.
CORREOS and the Camino de Santiago
CORREOS has designed a series of services to help the pilgrims who make the Camino and has created a specific web page for the Camino de Santiago with detailed information on the different routes, accommodations and with the advice of more than 150 postal employees, who give clues to the pilgrims about the corners that can not be missed, the best places to eat or relax and, ultimately, useful information to discover the authentic magic of the Camino.
This web page summarizes all the services that CORREOS offers to pilgrims: the transport of backpacks and suitcases from stage to stage with the Paq Mochila, the delivery of bicycles to the place where the Camino starts or back home, a specific service consignment in Santiago de Compostela to leave the luggage and enter the Cathedral, sending suitcases to any post office of the Camino for the pilgrim to collect them on arrival, or to send them back
