"El Camino de Santiago": winning short film
"El Camino de Santiago" by Mario Monzó is the short film winner of the Grand Jury Prize of SundanceTv Shorts, which celebrates its fifth edition this year to award the best international short films.
"El Camino de Santiago" (The Way of Santiago) tells the story of a man named Santiago who, tired of his monotonous and boring life, decides to disappear without previous notice, stealing his brother´s car and trying to turn his life 360º. The story begins in a quiet village of the Camino de Santiago during summer. Eva María, his wife, goes into a despair and semi-madness mode for the disappearance of Santiago, which causes her mind to be divided between the suspicion that he has abandoned her and that something serious may have happened to him. At the same time, he has to omit the murmurings of the neighbours who think that Santiago is missing because he is partying. She can not find an explanation for what is happening but, what she does know is that he will not stop looking for Santiago until he comes back. Therefore, Eva María decides to improvise a plan with the only hope of being able to find his husband.
The Jury of the event has valued the work as a film that "thrills and entertains equally" and concludes by saying that "the work of Mario Monzó makes El Camino prevail by its essence and not for the destination".
"El Camino de Santiago" will be screened at the Sundance Film Festival: London, which will take place from May 30 to June 2 and also at the annual Sundance TV event that will take place at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Likewise, the short film will be aired on SundanceTV this year.
SundanceTV Shorts offers a unique platform to promote emerging filmmakers. The contest has the collaboration of Movistar +, Fotogramas and the Writers Guild of ALMA.
