CORREOS launched a new Mail Art call about the Camino de Santiago
This Monday, June, 11th, CORREOS launched a new call of Mail Art focusing on the Camino de Santiago. The route, which brought more than 300.000 pilgrims to Galicia's main city, has been elected to be the theme of the new Mail Art campaign of the postal company. Both the different routes of the Camino and their principles, landscapes or also experiences lived during the path can be captured on the artworks of those who wish to participate.
The artworks can be sent until September, 30th, and all of them will be exposed on El Camino con Correos web site, as well as in future expositions set up by CORREOS.
The call is going to be opened for professional artists and for amateur artists, as well as those who already did the Camino de Santiago or anyone who wants to start a relationship with it by taking part on the initiative.
This edition is the second call of Mail Art organised by CORREOS. The last one took part in 2015 and collaborated with the Association os Fathers and Mothers of persons with Autism Disorder (ASPANAES), with the aim of making society aware of these people everyday reality living with the disorder. Almost 300 works arrived at CORREOS' office from 28 countries and were exposed in the most important cities of the Spanish territory.
CORREOS apart of organising their own Mail Art event collaborates with institutions and educative centres to promote this kind of activities throughout the country.
The concept is based on the exchange of any artistic element put in circulation by the postal services. When it was first created in the 50's, intended to be a new mean of communication different from the traditional ones referring to art, and achieved becoming a way of exchanging works of art.
The artists who use CORREOS to send their works make CORREOS becoming part of the artistic process.
