From end to beginning: 5 reasons to finish your Way in Finisterre.
1. The end of the world is 4 days away.
Forget about everything you've seen so far, because on the Camino de Santiago the landscapes never repeat themselves twice and, even less when we get closer to the coast from the interior. Only 90 km, divided into 4 stages, separate you from Finis Terrae (Finisterre). In general, the stages are a little more extensive than the previous ones but we assure you that each of them is worth it!
2. To Finisterre step by step.
The road to Finisterre, as we said before, is divided into 4 stages, although the last 2 can be done together.
• Santiago de Compostela - Negreira (21km). Leaving behind the city, we go back into the rural interior of Galicia.
• Negreira - Oliveiroa (33km). It is the longest stage, but also the one that one step closer to the coast.
• Oliveiroa - Muxía (32 km). You can also go from Oliveiroa directly to Finisterre, passing through towns such as Cee or Corcubión and then doing the Fisterra - Muxía stage (30km).
• Muxía - Fisterra (30km). You will climb through Facho de Lourido, the highest point of the stage with 300 meters above sea level.
3. The hostels: more and better.
With the boom of this extension of the Camino the small network of hostels has been enlarged and improved in the villages that it crosses, in many cases, non-existent, so you will not have to look far to find a nice accommodation.
4. Goodbye... to your boots.
In Fisterra you say goodbye to the Camino and, following tradition, your boots. There is a point behind the lighthouse where many pilgrims burn their shoes, next to a small statue-homage in the shape of an iron boot.
5. The Fisterrana.
When you get to Compostela you receive the Compostelana, so when you get to Finisterra, you get the Fisterrana! It is an official document which you can get in the municipality of Finisterra presenting the credential, that is, it only changes the place, the procedure is the same as in Santiago.
And we love to see you arrive in Santiago, but we like it better knowing that your path does not end here! Although we only give you five, discover for yourself the thousand and one reasons to reach the End of the World!
