Baiona and Ribadeo, points of departure for a new maritime route to Santiago
The Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona, in the south, and the Real Club Náutico de Ribadeo, in the north, are the starting points of the Travesía Náutica Xacobea, a new pilgrimage route to Santiago that allows obtaining the Compostela. To do this, maritime pilgrims must complete a minimum of 90 nautical miles sailing by sealing their credentials at the ports of passage and then finish the journey on foot to Compostela.
The new route runs through the thirteen Galician ports and marinas in possession of the Q Quality Tourism certification and includes two variants.
Those pilgrims departing from Baiona, will pass through Vigo (Real Club Náutico de Vigo), Cangas (Real Club Nautico de Rodeira), Sanxenxo (Club Náutico de Portonovo and Real Club Nautico de Sanxenxo), San Vicente do Mar (Club Náutico de San Vicente do Mar) and Cabo de Cruz (Club Náutico de Boiro). Once in Boiro, you can go up the Ulla River to Padrón or Pontecesures and from there continue by land to Compostela; or continue to Ribeira (Club Náutico Deportivo de Ribeira) and Portosín (Real Club Náutico de Portosín) to follow on foot to Santiago.
The variant of the north, on the other hand, has as its starting point Ribadeo (Real Club Nautico de Ribadeo) and goes through Ares, Sada, A Coruña and Portosín. From this point, we continue walking to the city of the Apostle.
Once in Santiago, the sailors must present their credentials stamped in the Pilgrim's Office to pick up the Compostela.
