Exposure El Camino. The origin
A City of Culture in Compostela offers up to 13 September 2015 the possibility of "a journey that brings us to the minute one, the seed, the root cause of a historical and cultural phenomenon that continues to this day: the pilgrimage". A magnificent opportunity to know the origin of "the main street of Europe", the phenomenon that connects the entire continent through a route, the Camino de Santiago, full of moments that are intertwined in a way. Thousands of people have followed the first steps of marking this route, reviving, in this way, the feelings of the pioneers in cross it.
The Museum Centro Gaiás wanted to tell through this sample, the common thread that links as early as 820 AD, the hermit Pelayo finding the tomb of the Apostle, communication Find the bishop Teodomiro and the transfer of all the king's court Alfonso II the Chaste what would centuries after the current Compostela, until today.
"The Way. The origin"consists of 150 works of art and artistic interventions eleven offering a contemporary vision of the pilgrimage route. The exhibition is divided into two areas. In the section on the road we can see masterpieces by great artists such as Durero or Murillo from recognized institutions, from the Uffizi Gallery to the Prado Museum, National Heritage and the Cathedral of Santiago, and other pieces of high cultural value. The section on Origin, on floors 1 and 2 of Gaiás Museum Center, is divided into three parts: St. James the Apostle, the Way and Pilgrim. This section is completed by the project Jacobean Places, eleven artistic interventions by creators of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Vigo, which establish a dialogue as a spatial correlation, superimposing the layout of the historic city of Santiago with that of the City of Culture.
