Currently, the contribution of the Portuguese Ways leading to Santiago de Compostela to the sociocultural and tourist development of the different territories they cross and the respective positive impacts on their local economies, mainly in the interior of the country, is undeniable. It was in this context that, in May 2019, the Portuguese Federation of the Way of St. James was created, a project that had been in development since 2015 by several founding partners, with the support of Turismo de Portugal and the Directorate-General for Culture.

Thus, the Portuguese Federation of the Way of St. James arose from the need for an organization that would coordinate all matters related to the Way of St. James in Portugal, bringing together municipalities, pilgrim associations, and all private institutions involved in this project. or public documents related to this topic.
