Gastronomy, workshops, music and recreational activities for all audiences, Fairway will open its doors on Sunday, 9 November, with an Open Day that invites pilgrims, visitors, professionals and neighbours to experience the Camino de Santiago. More than thirty activities with over 1,500 places will be offered during the Camino de Santiago Forum, which will be hosted by the City of Culture between 9 and 11 November in a very special edition full of new features.

Fairway’s Open Day is a unique opportunity to discover the essence of the Camino de Santiago with all your senses. The cuisine of the Camino will feature prominently in the programme, through workshops and a special space for discovering the flavours of the province of A Coruña: the Gastroway. Under the brand name ‘A Paisaxe que sabe’ (The Landscape that Tastes Good), the Provincial Council of A Coruña invites us to meet the producers and chefs of the province through unique tapas made with products from the A Coruña region.

But, in addition, upon prior registration and reservation, we will be able to discover other flavours of the Camino through workshops and presentations that will take place throughout the fair: ‘Vermouths and Cheeses: a route through the flavours of La Provincia que Sabe’ (The Province that Tastes Good), at 12 noon, and ‘Gastronomic Pilgrimage: liqueurs and pastries from the Caminos de Santiago’ (The Ways of St James), starting at 5pm, will be led by writer and gastronomic expert Jorge Guitián, while the chef at D’Antaño Food and Service, José Manuel Mallón, will be in charge of offering two other Flavours of the Way workshops: artisan food and products with DO and IXP, one at 12 noon and the other at 5pm, in which he will combine artisan food products with those protected by Designation of Origin (DO) and Protected Geographical Indication (IXP) labels found along the route.

Experience the Camino

Along with the gastronomy of the Camino, the Open Day will also be an opportunity to discover Santiago through the iCamino route, which links the five Caminos that converge in Santiago, accompanied by official tour guides who know that a city cannot be explained, it must be discovered. A route in which 150 people will participate, walking from the Plaza del Obradoiro to the City of Culture. Those who complete the iCamino and collect their diploma will also receive a €5 voucher to enjoy at Gastroway and make the experience even more complete.

And for the little ones, OpenDay also offers activities: an Escape Room called ‘The Apostle’s Relic’, which will be held throughout the day in small groups, and an origami workshop called ‘The Way on Paper’, where they will learn to create figures related to the Camino de Santiago: scallop shells, yellow arrows, pilgrim backpacks, stars and even small travelling birds.

Music will also be present at this Open Day. Led by Señora DJ at midday, from 2pm to 3.30pm, the Museum of the City of Culture of Galicia will shake off the dust to become a dance floor, while a concert of traditional Galician music will bring the day to a close.

In short, Fairway is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a very special day full of experiences for all the senses, which could also win you a prize. By getting your My Camino credential, which can be obtained at the Information Point, stamped at least ten exhibitors, you can enter a draw for trips, stays, experiences and other prizes.

Flavours of the Camino, voices telling stories of the sea, mountains and Camino will come together to create a festive atmosphere that will serve as a prelude to the celebration of the Tourism and Camino Forum.
