The VI Fairway will open its doors this Sunday, 9 November, with an Open Day full of activities. Thirty different activities for all ages and tastes will make the Museum of the Cidade da Cultura the ideal place to spend a day with the family, culminating in a concert by Xabier Díaz.
The performance will take place at 6 p.m. and will feature a trio, together with Roberto Grandal (accordion) and Iván Costa (hurdy-gurdy). This soulful traditional Galician music performance will serve as the culmination of the activities offered throughout the Open Day.
The organisers remind us that access to Fairway is free. Those who wish to secure their place in activities with limited capacity can make a symbolic payment of €5. However, it is possible to register on the waiting list for free – but without a guaranteed place – using the form on the website.
The Open Day activities will begin first thing in the morning with a new edition of iCamino, starting at Plaza do Obradoiro for both groups (which will depart at 9:00 and 10:00, respectively). With up to 150 people per shift, there will be a tour linking the five routes that converge in Compostela, with explanations from official tour guides.
Once at the Museum of the Cidade da Cultura, the activities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the first of four sessions of the Camino Escape Room: The Relic of the Apostle. With a maximum capacity of 10 people per session, they will take place at 11:30 a.m., 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
One of the new features this year will be the arrival, for the first time in Santiago, of the exhibition Elías Valiñas. The inventor of the yellow arrow. The exhibition, consisting of explanatory panels and images, can be visited in the hall leading to the auditorium area during the three days of the event, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The little ones will also have their own space at the Open Day, with three origami workshop sessions. These activities, led by Anaquiños de papel, are aimed at children aged 6 and up and will take place at 11.30am, 1pm and 5pm.
Tastings, workshops and gastronomic sampling
In the presentation area (floor -1 of the Museum), writer and gastronomic expert Jorge Guitián will lead a vermouth and cheese tasting at 12 noon. He will showcase the diversity of flavours in the Paisaxe region, which is part of the Provincial Council of A Coruña. Guitián will offer another tasting at 6.15 pm, with a sweet tour of different Caminos accompanied by liqueurs.
The Galician Food Quality Agency (AGACAL) will offer two workshops on Flavours of the Camino, led by chef José Manuel Mallón from D’Antaño Food & Service. They will take place at 1.15 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Museum’s Tirante Hall (ground floor).
For those who want to take advantage of the Open Day to spend a day with their family at the VI Fairway, there will be the Gastroway – Vermut & Tapas A Paisaxe que sabe, from 1.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. On this occasion, the tasting of products and dishes will be provided by companies and chefs from the province of A Coruña. A unique opportunity to taste the nuances of the A Coruña region.
The Vermúway will begin at 2 pm in the Tirante Hall itself. This activity will set the pace for the VI Fairway with a musical session by Señora DJ.
The fun activities will continue on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th November, with three escape rooms and three beer tastings. In the first case, there will be sessions at 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., while in the second, the Sensory Route through Beer Culture will be offered at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Martín Gómez Toba, Hijos de Rivera’s Beer Culture expert, will be in charge of this interesting workshop.
